THE NLBA GLOVE SYSTEM
NLBA GLOVE SYSTEM
The NLBA Glove System, which was adopted from Griffins Boxing and Fitness out of North Vancouver, is designed to teach the art of Olympic style boxing in five stages. The first stage, "white glove", teaches the boxer the fundamental skills of boxing and acclamtizes them mentality and physically to the active athletic lifestyle.
In order for a boxer to advance from one stage to another, they must demonstrate knowledge and capability by performing all the taught skills. Once a boxer completes a stage, they change the colour of their hand wraps to match the colour of their new stage.
THE PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE
White Glove:
The entry stage teaches the following fundamental skills of boxing: proper foot stance and movements, straight punching, hand wrapping, rhythmic rope skipping, flexibility and rhythmic coordination drills, developing the essential boxing principles, performing callisthenics and many other boxing fundamental skills. There is no contact at this stage, but boxers work with each other using hand targets, punching bags and other boxing training equipment.
Yellow Glove:
After a successful completion of the first stage, a boxer would advance to the second stage - yellow glove - where they would be introduced to sparring (contact) in a very controlled conditionals manner. After learning all the requirements of the yellow glove, they would advance to blue glove.
Blue Glove:
This third stage renders the boxer mature, responsibly disciplined and requires minimal supervision. Its training sessions are intense, lengthier and more demanding. Boxers in this stage are encouraged to develop their own unique boxing style.
Red Glove:
Red glove boxers are novice members of the NLBA Amateur Boxing Team "ELITE TEAM". They could compete in sanctioned amateur boxing competitions. Successful completion of this stage includes competing in eleven (11) sanctioned amateur boxing competitions. Red glove boxers must accept random weight-checks and demonstrate leadership qualities.
Black Glove:
This is the final stage of the NLBA Glove System. A black glove boxer is one who has successfully competed in eleven (11) or more sanctioned amateur boxing competitions and successfully completed all the requirements of the red glove stage with an approved pass from a certified NCCP amateur boxing coach.
